What Does CHAS Blue Cover for Dental?
The Community Health Assist Scheme (CHAS) Blue card is available to Singaporean households with a monthly per capita income of $800 or below (or an Annual Value of property of $13,000 or below for those without income). It provides the highest subsidy tier for dental treatments at CHAS-accredited clinics.
CHAS Blue dental subsidies cover these common treatments:
- Dental consultation and examination
- Scaling and polishing (cleaning)
- Simple fillings (amalgam and composite)
- Simple tooth extractions
- Dentures (removable prosthetics)
- X-rays related to the above treatments
How Much Can You Save?
CHAS Blue card holders receive the most generous subsidies. While exact amounts depend on the treatment, here is a general overview:
- Per-visit subsidy: Up to $63.50 per visit for common treatments (filling, extraction, or scaling)
- Annual subsidy cap: Up to $310 per year for basic dental treatments
- Denture subsidy: Additional subsidies of up to $426 per denture are available
These subsidies can bring the out-of-pocket cost of routine dental visits down to very little — sometimes close to zero for basic treatments like a simple cleaning or filling.
What Is NOT Covered by CHAS Dental Subsidies?
While CHAS Blue covers many everyday dental treatments, some procedures are excluded:
- Dental implants
- Braces and orthodontic treatment (Invisalign, metal braces)
- Teeth whitening and other cosmetic procedures
- Root canal treatment
- Crowns, bridges, and veneers
- Surgical extractions (wisdom tooth surgery) — though these may be claimable through Medisave instead
For treatments not covered by CHAS, you may be able to use Medisave for qualifying surgical procedures. For example, wisdom tooth surgery is 100% Medisave-claimable up to $1,250 per tooth.
Can You Combine CHAS with Medisave?
Yes, CHAS and Medisave serve different purposes and can be used together where applicable. CHAS covers routine dental treatments at the point of care, while Medisave covers qualifying surgical procedures such as wisdom tooth surgery, dental implants, and gum surgery.
For example, a CHAS Blue card holder needing both a dental cleaning and a wisdom tooth removal could use their CHAS subsidy for the cleaning and Medisave for the surgery — maximising their savings across both schemes.
How to Use Your CHAS Card at Trust Dental
Using your CHAS card at Trust Dental Surgery is straightforward:
- Bring your CHAS Blue card and NRIC to your appointment.
- Inform the front desk that you would like to use your CHAS subsidy.
- The subsidy is applied automatically — you only pay the remaining balance after the subsidy is deducted.
