No. Medisave can be used for the surgical placement of a dental implant, up to $1,950 per implant, but not for the crown or the abutment. Those are restorative components with no code on CPF's Table of Surgical Procedures, so they are paid in cash, by card or through insurance at every clinic in Singapore. At Trust Dental Surgery an Osstem or Dentium implant with PFM crown is $2,449 in total: $1,950 from Medisave and $499 paid by you (before 9% GST).
This is the question that catches most patients out after they hear that implants are "Medisave-claimable". The claim is real, but it applies to one stage of a three-part treatment. Here is exactly which part, why, and what it means for the amount you pay.
An implant is three parts; only one is surgery
| Component | What it is | Medisave-claimable? |
|---|---|---|
| Implant fixture | The titanium post placed into the jawbone under local anaesthetic | Yes — a listed surgical procedure |
| Abutment | The connector screwed onto the fixture after healing | No — prosthetic component |
| Crown | The visible porcelain or zirconia tooth fitted onto the abutment | No — restorative component |
Why the crown is excluded
Medisave's dental coverage sits inside the hospitalisation and day-surgery framework. A dental treatment is claimable only if it appears on CPF's Table of Surgical Procedures, and the amount is fixed by the row it falls under. Placing an implant fixture is surgery and is on the table. Fitting an abutment and crown is a restorative procedure done in the chair weeks or months later; there is no incision and no surgical code, so there is nothing for a Medisave claim to attach to. The same rule is why a crown on a natural tooth has never been claimable under standard Medisave.
This is a CPF rule, not a clinic policy. No clinic in Singapore can put the crown through Medisave, however the package is described.
What about Flexi-MediSave for seniors?
From 1 June 2026, Singaporeans and PRs aged 60 and above can use up to $400 a year of Flexi-MediSave for root canal treatment and permanent crowns on natural teeth at CHAS dental clinics. MOH's announcement does not list implant crowns or abutments, and in any case the $400 annual cap is far below the cost of an implant crown. For practical purposes, the crown portion of an implant is a cash or insurance item for patients of every age.
What this means for your bill
Because the crown sits outside Medisave, a complete implant almost always leaves a balance to pay after the claim. Our packages price the fixture, abutment, crown, CBCT scan and medication together, so the split is simple:
| Implant with PFM crown | Total price | Medisave (up to) | You pay |
|---|---|---|---|
| Osstem or Dentium | $2,449 | $1,950 | $499 |
| Straumann | $3,449 | $1,950 | $1,499 |
Prices before 9% GST. The $1,950 is the Medisave claim, not the price of the implant. If your Medisave balance is below $1,950, the difference is added to the cash amount; a family member's Medisave can also be used. For how the $1,950 limit itself is set and how claims work for two or more implants, see how Medisave claims for dental implants work.
Questions to ask before you commit to any implant quote
- Does the quoted price include the abutment and the permanent crown, or only the fixture surgery?
- What is the total cash amount across all visits, assuming a full $1,950 Medisave claim?
- Is the price before or after 9% GST?
